Doll Therapy

Montessori

When one resident moved to Radiant Care, staff noticed how she would light up every time children came to visit. Doll therapy was the answer to her sense of purpose and engagement. She is happiest when she is holding and caring for her “baby.”  She talks to the baby, rocks it to sleep, and has purpose in a way that is very meaningful for her.

At both our Long-Term Care sites, we have a number of programs that connect our residents with children and young people. Schools, youth groups and choirs come regularly. Young students and seniors build friendships through a pen pal program.  Our seniors knit hats, mitts and scarves to donate to children in need. All these activities promote understanding and mutual respect between generations, to the delight of our residents as well as the children.

Knit and Sew Station

Many of our female residents enjoy going up to the sewing desk and picking out their own yarn and crochet hooks to start their own projects. One lady has made herself at home with the sewing desk by placing her projects back in the drawers along with her tissues and other items, of course; but the next time she goes up to the desk, she opens the drawers to get her project to start working on it again.

Ecotherapy

Allowing farmers to ‘farm’ in their home has provided comfort and a sense of purpose to our residents. We have a new resident who is a proud farmer who helps us water and maintain our seedlings that will eventually go outside once the weather is warmer. This activity also provides comfort and pride to his family members to reinsure that he is adjusting to his new environment.
