Meet Nelly March 5, 2021

Nelly is the author of a recently distributed children’s story book that had an interesting beginning!

Nelly was born in Saskatchewan and moved to St. Catharines with her family in 1942, and then to Port Robinson in 1946. She moved into Arborview at Radiant Care Pleasant Manor in the summer of 2020.

Nelly is the author of a recently distributed children’s story book that had an interesting beginning!

Nelly recounts how it all came about:

‘I was inspired to write about a duckling named ‘Bubbles’ that I had recently found on our farm. As I nursed it to a healthy adulthood, I took notes of its unfamiliar behaviours. I sent those notes to the Friesen Publishers in Winnipeg to print them for my personal use. They sent me back my notes in a book form, which eventually was titled; ‘My Kids Bubbles and Bubbly’!

First printed in the late 1970’s, it has been reprinted twice, most recently in 2020. It has been distributed by Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

The back cover states: ‘What do you do when you find a damaged nest of duck eggs? Why, you take them home to try to hatch them of course! When Nelly found the damaged mallard duck nest in 1978, she never expected it would lead to years of friendship with a pair of ducks. Meet stubborn, quirky, and loving ducks, ‘Bubbly’ and ‘Bubbles’, possibly his mother, in this charming and hilarious tale of friendship and discovery!’

Nelly never imagined that her exploits with her ducks would bring joy to children throughout North America. She is thankful it has. And so are we!
