Radiant Care Pleasant Manor – Poised for Growth! April 5, 2018

Radiant Care Pleasant Manor received a visit from the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, announcing an investment of $35 million into seniors care in the Niagara community.

Radiant care pleasant manor – poised for growth!

(April 5, 2018) Radiant Care Pleasant Manor received a visit from the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, the Hon. Dr. Helena Jaczek. The Minister announced 81 additional bed licences for the home, a major step toward our ultimate goal of a brand-new 160-bed long-term care home.

With a half-century’s legacy of serving seniors in Niagara, Radiant Care Pleasant Manor is poised to launch an exciting phase of redevelopment that will take its campus of care to a whole new level and respond to the growing demand for seniors care in the Region – the construction of the multi-storey building will take place on Radiant Care Pleasant Manor’s current property in Virgil, centrally situated in the municipality of Niagara-on-the-Lake.  It is designed to be a hub for community services as well as long-term care, with space for fitness and wellness, falls prevention services and social gathering areas that will enhance the lives of the seniors living on site and in the surrounding community.

Seniors are the fastest growing population in Niagara-on-the-Lake, with 26.9% aged 65 or older, compared to the Ontario average of 16.4%.  At Radiant Care Pleasant Manor, the wait list for housing and Long-Term Care combined is almost 950.

The Ministry first announced its approval of up to 160 beds for Radiant Care Pleasant Manor in July, 2016. Since then, Radiant Care has been working very hard to put everything in place to proceed with the project.

Radiant Care has long been committed to being a leader in care in Niagara.  It is a not-for-profit organization that serves over 600 seniors with a staff of 361, and locations in Niagara-on-the-Lake and St. Catharines.  Shared leadership and administrative services enable the delivery of the highest-quality care within an efficient and effective organizational structure.

Radiant Care’s Strategic Plan emphasizes relational excellence and cultural preservation, innovative growth and partnerships, and a specialization in dementia and palliative care.  This new long-term care home will be designed and built with these priorities in mind, creating a bright, warm home environment for long-term care residents while also striving to be a welcoming space for the tenants living on the Pleasant Manor campus, their families, guests and the surrounding community.  The home will be state-of-the-art, with spacious accommodation, comfortable amenities, all built to meet the latest LEED Silver standards that respect the environment and reduce the home’s carbon footprint.

The new building will allow for further modifications at Radiant Care Pleasant Manor, to serve more seniors.  Following the experience of its sister home in St. Catharines, Radiant Care Tabor Manor,  the current long-term care space, once vacated when the new building is opened, will be re-purposed and retrofitted to increase capacity for more assisted living and other seniors services.

Along with the physical growth and development, this exciting project will be a catalyst for further partnerships with the local academic communities of Brock University and Niagara College, providing an experiential learning environment for students and for applied research.

All together, the redevelopment of Radiant Care Pleasant Manor represents a $35 million investment into seniors care and into the Niagara community.
